ECOGRAV – THE FIRST ADJUSTABLE TRAILING BLADE DOCTOR CHAMBER

Enclosed doctor chambers have been used successfully on flexo printers and gravure coaters, replacing the conventional open pan system.

The enclosed chambers have the following advantages:

• Minimum ink volume and thus massive savings on ink wastage and clean-down times

• Reduced evaporation, particularly of solvents with the resultant cleaner and safer working environment

At last gravure printers can now benefit from enclosed doctor chambers with the first adjustable trailing blade doctor blade unit developed by Delpro Ltd.

As with Delpro’s flexo chambers, ECOGRAV is constructed from carbon fibre which is extremely strong, yet lightweight and corrosion resistant to all water based and solvent inks.

It also however incorporates some unique features, essential for gravure printing:

• The trailing doctoring blade is fully adjustable over the range ± 25º from the horizontal and can be adjusted on the run.

• A variable speed cam action air motor provides oscillation of the chamber to prevent preferential wear and build up of any particles.

• Micrometer adjustment of blade position to gravure roll accommodates change in gravure roll repeat length from 400 to 1000mm

The mounting system incorporates a two point location for quick removal of the chamber and guaranteed repeatable replacement as well as pneumatic throw on/off. Mounting systems can be custom designed to suit all press and trolley configurations.

The Norcross VISC6000 is a PLC-based process control system that operates viscosity sensors and can monitor and control up to 10 stations through an intuitive touch screen interface. Featuring trend plot software, this control system displays trend data for each station in real-time, provides data logging for one hour up to seven days, and permits set-point and other viscosity parameter adjustments on-the-fly.

Capable of displaying set-point, actual viscosity, and automatic/manual mode for each trend plot, the Norcross VISC6000 Viscosity Control System can be equipped with pH and temperature control options. Compatible with all Norcross equipment, it can be easily retrofitted to existing applications which include inks, adhesives, chemicals, coatings, lacquers, and more.
